New Normal!

How’s Your New Normal Going?

Can I start by sharing a promise I’ve made to myself this week?
It’s this; I will never again walk past a supermarket food bank donation bin without putting something in.

As I write, I’ve returned from picking up donations dropped by shoppers at my local Tesco, I then delivered the content to the nearby Oasis food bank HQ, a grotto of Lapland-like activity where volunteers are packing boxes and sending them out to people in need of help. Most stores around the UK do it and are affiliated to a local food bank, so next time you pass one in a rush, please stop and put something in – a can of soup, some washing-up liquid, tea bags, UHT milk or a packet of pasta. I promise you from my experience today, it will be wisely used – and someone out there will be eternally grateful you gave them a thought.

Lofty Thinking

My Social Distancing To-Do List is not really going down because I keep adding things to it, but at least I now have an immaculate loft.

Not Peach Perfect

Thank the Lord that loo rolls are now aplenty once more and we’ve finally used the last roll of our peach coloured batch! It was purchased in total desperation as it goes completely against the law of homemaking to use anything other than white – and that law applies to tissues as well. It’s possible I may have just made that up, but I’m standing by it.

Natural Sparkle

This week my appliances got a whole heap of TLC. You look after them and they will look after you. Dishwasher first. We’re not drinking during incarceration – don’t ask (OK, it was a bet). Anyway, iced tea is being brewed by the gallon, thus there are lots of lemons hanging around. So I stuck all the discarded ones on the dishwasher spikes and did an empty wash (with tablet in) on its highest setting. It worked wonders! Do clean your rotors to be sure there isn’t a rogue piece of rice lodged in them, and then top up your salt. I think it’s a waste buying dishwasher cleaning solutions as the hot empty wash more than does the job. The lemons were just an added bonus! I also wiped round the seals of all my white goods with an e-cloth and my usual homemade concoction of;

  • 2tbsp white vinegar

  •  2tsp laundry borax

  • 2 teacups water

  • 3 drops lavender oil and u 3 drops tea tree oil.

Pour them all into a spray bottle and you are good to go!

Until next week, stay safe and whatever you are doing, do it in lip gloss.

Love, Anthea X
