Challenging Yourself!

Hows your week been?

In my house, I honestly don’t have another cupboard or draw to attack! Everything is clean – and I’m talking taking off the plastic trim round shower doors, removing scum with a nail brush clean! I only have a small outside space but it’s been loved and treated to the same care as an indoor room.

However, have you noticed there are flies everywhere at the moment? It’s like they all woke up together and decided to invade! As it happened, in the back of a cupboard I found a very old and not very nice filtered coffee. Now I hate waste, so I distributed it into a selection of heatproof bowls and set the coffee alight. It smoulders a little like an incense stick and then whoosh those pesky flies were gone. I think they all went next door! It’s a very old Mediterranean trick which totally works.

Challenges

Every year for some time I try and do something that challenges me, puts me out of my comfort zone. I put the intention out there at the beginning of the year and the good old universe provided. So in my 60th year, courtesy of Channel 4, I entered Celebrity SAS as their oldest recruit and peeped into the world of this elite band of soldiers. Plainly you’re not looking at the series winner! I was up against professional athletes, but inside I climbed a mountain and perched on the top. I am a firm believer that the elixir of youth isn’t in a pot of cream, it’s all in the mind. As we age, our world, instead of expanding physically and spiritually, is in danger of shrinking. With this in mind, don’t be frightened about challenges and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

Adventure is what this glorious life is all about, and that includes the difficulties we are living through now. The Japanese don’t talk about age in the way we do, they value wisdom and 60 plus is referred to as your “Second Spring”, so let’s make the most of it as a new beginning. I found this on my friend Emma Forbes Instagram: “You can’t give your life more time, so give the time you have left more life”

A motto we could all live by. Until next week, stay safe and whatever you are doing, do it in lip gloss!

Love, Anthea X
