How Romantic?

Date night dinners how fabulous but just for a laugh I’m showing you a picture Mark took of me at ours – How romantic? Surrounded by building materials, an old kitchen door balanced on a box for a table, candle lit, music on, what could be better? Well, a new kitchen actually! The ‘camping’ fun is definitely starting to wear off and I’m counting the days to when dust, dirt and endless drilling are not part of my day.

However, when about to have a ‘pity party’ I remind myself of those who’ve lost or had their home damaged through war, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and think myself lucky. It’s a good way of snapping ourselves back to reality and having travelled the world I can honestly say that with all our problems here in the UK we live in a good country, in fact better than most, and its home.

I love pink, I wear it throughout the seasons it’s a strong feature of my wardrobe and has a very positive brightening effect on everything from my spirit to the way I present myself. Because I’m a typical Gemini and struggle with identity and consistency, I once thought I should be more sophisticated and keep to a tonal look of taupe, tan, white, cream, black, grey, navy etc. I thought by removing colour it would make getting ready easier and I’d look cooler. It didn’t work, I felt wrong, not me, I need a splash of colour, it doesn’t half brighten your mood and makes you look so much better in a picture. So channel your inner Barbie whenever you can.

Ever since watching Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt in the film ‘Pay it Forward’ (based on a book of the same name by Catherine Ryan Hyde) I have tried my best to follow the principle and ‘pay it forward’ myself: I went to the hairdressers, pulled up in my car, thanked the parking fairies and rushed in. I must have been there for a good hour but when I went to pay horror of all horrors by purse wasn’t in my pocket, I know I had it with me as I’d drawn some cash out and remember putting it there. I rushed back to the car and looked everywhere, by now it was dark and as I was just about to hit the panic button when there it was, a little flatter, in the middle of the road. I pounced on it, opened it and couldn’t believe my eyes  -it was intact with cards, cash everything. I thought, this must be my lucky day so I need to pay it forward. Across the road I spied a tramp pushing a shopping trolly with all his earthly possessions in it. Now it was HIS lucky day - I rushed over, rammed £50 into his hands, wished him well, thanked the Universe and returned to pay my bill, glowing. Try paying it forward yourself – you wont regret it.

I haven’t opened it yet but love the idea of our short stories pull out. I have a trip to Devon coming up in the next few weeks so am going to save it for the journey.

Enjoy your week,

XX
