I love red

How lovely to be celebrating the colour red in this week’s magazine and it’s not Christmas!

I love red it’s a standout colour that certainly gets you noticed, what I refer to, together with any other bright block colour, a ‘Mail Online’ dead cert. Translated that means if you’re attending an ‘event’ and want to make the picture desk cut, go bright or go home. Queen Elizabeth, especially in her later years, knew how to stand out in a picture, she would take a bright colour and using clean unfussy tailoring wear it from head to toe. Princes Diana did it, Princes Grace of Monaco, Jackie Onassis and Princes of Wales does it beautifully.

Have you ever had a Gong Bath? Well neither had I until a few years ago and it was amazing. Because a friend had asked me to support her, out of loyalty I went along. It was truly amazing and that night after just about managing to drive home I had one of the best sleeps of my life. Please seek one out, most are inexpensive and all you need are; Comfy clothes, loose trousers, t-shirt and maybe another layer, I took a light throw, socks, water and an eye mask. If I could do this every week I would. I’ve even tried doing it in my PJ’s at home with an app but sadly those endorphins stay dormant. Maybe it’s because experiencing a Gong Bath with others you pick up a collective good vibe relaxing energy.

Remember last week we were talking about foundation?

Well, something must have been was in the air because on Saturday I met one of the heroines of modern day makeup Lynne Sanders who in 1973 co-founded Cosmetics à La Carte.

6 months ago, desperate to find a new mineral powder makeup after the company I had been using for years changed their formula, I arrived in her shop leaving with 2 colours to blend and play around with, a brush and a concealer. So many people you would know have passed through Lynne’s doors the most notable being Diana, Princes of Wales. Although she clearly wore makeup she never looked ‘over done’ her foundation with highlighter and blusher allowed her natural glow to shine through. It was a total coincidence that the day I popped in to renew my pallets there she was behind the till with her daughter Isabella helping customers find their exact skin tone matches. Lynne is her very own ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ novel. As a trained Chemist she broke the mould and to this day can still be found in her laboratory creating the makeup formulars we go in and buy. This time I proudly emerged with a bag of hers and Isabella’s suggestions which are perfect for my skin tone and easy to apply. It was like having Mary Quant run up one of her dresses for me.

Keep a look out on my Instagram as I can feel a live coming on so I can share with you her love of makeup in particularly foundation.
