Love, Love, Love, May
There’s a buzz in our lovely magazine this week and it’s all about the Summer, I’m not one to wish my life away but love, love, love, May. Not only is it the month I was born, but it’s the month when we’re all fresh and perky with summer anticipation, the leaves are out the flowers are out, my legs are out and so are my ideas to not waste a moment of it, because by the end of October I’ll be reaching for thermal underwear a hot water bottle and a warm toddy in front of the fire. So holidays this year what are you doing? I have limited patience with a fly and flop holidays, don’t get me wrong the thought, as I write to you from a train going seeing my Dad in Stoke of lying on a beach under an umbrella with a book and a cool gin does sound fabulous for a few days and I fully intend on doing it this year but is it going to change my life? No, I’m not going to be talking about it for months, it won’t have changed my life and I won’t be telling everyone I know they have to do it? So found myself looking at holiday challenges the sort that don’t involve a hairdryer, ten outfits fand a detox when I get home, scaling The Three Peaks looks interesting, Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland. Do I want to do it in 3 days like people who are raising money for charities? Not at all it’s a holiday you can do with a group of girlfriends or your nearest and dearest with a twist. Sections of Hadrian’s Wall look exciting also The Ridgeway and as a rider navigating Cathar history in the French Pyrenes on horseback has an appeal, then there’s the Himalayas, I did the trip for ‘Wish You Were Here’ it was so uplifting always thought I’d return but without a film crew in tow. Another holiday I defy you to come home from and say “I had a terrible time” is scrambling around the Alps in the Summer, I used to have a home in the mountains and summers are as good as Winters, with breath taking scenery and lungs full of the finest clean air you’ll feel like Julie Andrews in the opening scene of The Sound of Music. So basically, if you are having a ponder don’t let the grass grow under your thoughts, plan it, do it and talk about it incessantly before and after. Just pulling into in Stoke Station my Dad is waiting for me and I’m going to spend the next few days sorting out my his garage - Now there’s a challenge not for the faint hearted, a skip will be involved which I might be hurling myself into with that gin I was going to have on the beach.
Love.
