Air Fryers and River Boats
Today while writing to you I’m desperately trying ‘not’ to have one eye on Jamie Oliver’s, Channel 4 show which is all about taking our humble air fryer to another level. He’s just dished up fresh salmon, with a salsa dressing on its crispy skin, nestled in broccoli, asparagus and guess what? A can of tinned potatoes! He tipped them into his second draw with a little butter. Honestly, if I had the ingredients, I’d be in the kitchen right now.
I love watching cookery programmes, Saturday Morning Kitchen is probably my favourite, and inspires me to be a more adventurous cook.
The picnic ideas in the magazine this week are great. For me, picnics come into 2 categories: either you are physically carrying them to your chosen beauty spot, or the car is your larder and all you do is whip out a folding table a couple of chairs or just a rug. For this one you can go crazy and make it look amazing. For this type, in case the style police are on parade, I use a variety of Kilner jars, all different sizes and decant everything into them from cookies, dips, fruit, feta, nuts until it resembles a a rural country pantry. It’s a joy to organise as well as to eat!
So lovely so see our travel feature on Greenwich. It’s not far from where I live if I jump on the tube, or better still one of the river boats run by UBER. We cycle to Battersea Pier, pop our bikes onboard then off at Greenwich Pier to freely enjoy the sights.
The Thames is tidal so I recommend downloading one of the tide apps because when its low, you can walk along the river’s edge, or ‘The Beach’ as I affectionately call it. Please make use of the river if you’re visiting London it’s a landmark in itself, very organised and you will see the capital from a completely different perspective.
So many places to jump on and off, like Battersea Power Station which if you’ve not seen it for years will blow your mind. Restaurants, shops, cinema and of course the power station itself with its iconic chimneys unmissably standing proud. It’s one of my favourite places to shop and hang out. I’m sounding like a tourist guide now but I love London - it completely trounces Paris, New York and we own it!. If you can please make you way to Regents Park and treat yourself to a ticket at the open-air theatre, I’m going next week to see ‘A Mid Summers Night Dream’. Then there is Hyde Park which you could happily spend all day in. Definitely hire a bike on the outskirts and take a ‘carrying’ picnic (no kilner jars!) in with you from Marble Arch M&S - easy and practical! Enjoy X
