Riding on Pageant Double-Deckers
Britain's most-loved public figures riding on Pageant double-deckers to represent each decade of Queen's 70-year reign
The colourful open top buses were decorated with images and famous slogans from each decade, including 'Groovy' from the 1970s and 'Girl Power' - brought into the mainstream by British pop icons The Spice Girls in the 1990s.
Some 10,000 people including a cast of 6,000 performers are involved in staging the carnival route from Horse Guards, along Whitehall to Admiralty Arch and down The Mall to Buckingham Palace, echoing Her Majesty's 1953 coronation procession.
It comes as the Queen today stepped out onto the Buckingham Palace balcony in her first public appearance since Platinum Jubilee celebrations began on Thursday.
Her Majesty, 96, was greeted by roars from the crowd of thousands of spectators gathered on The Mall as Britain's longest-serving head of state was helped onto the balcony by Prince Charles, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince George.
