Well I’ve done it - after years sitting on my bum thinking I should I’m joining a group of friends for the MoonWalk London 2012.
So far we’ve talked about training but not actually done any but the Bras are coming on a treat! I’ll fill you in on progress and fund raising over the next couple of months.
Buddie's Bed
on Wednesday, 29 February 2012.
With Buddie’s old bed in tatters I decided to buy him a new one which in would cushion his arthritic bones, he could get in and out of easily and generally would make a pensioner comfortable and happy. I trawled around the internet and finally landed on the site of an American company with a UK base. Every type of bed for every type of dog is on offer; memory foam, bolsters, covers, liners, dog bed heaven etc. Looking at it now I have a feeling I should have bought the medium size as opposed to the large one I ordered!
Now referred to as ‘Buddie’s Sofa’ it’s getting used and loved. Trying to keep the cat out of it though is my biggest problem!
You know how I go on about keeping brown paper in at all times for wrapping gifts... This was Grant's Valentines Day present wrapped in my favourite, simple and inexpensive way. The big box was a wine decanter from Mappin and Webb and the other is a typographic coordinates print from Bear Graphics. Both were loved Phew.
I’m spending quite a bit of time with the craft team at Create and Craft preparing for the launch of ‘Get Britain Crafting’ and also brushing up on so many skills I’ve not used in ages. I decided to sort out my cupboard of crafting items and boy do I have a collection of everything from card and buttons to wool and glue paint! The list is endless. What I also found was this little needlework case which was the first piece of sewing and embroidery I ever tackled and has stood the test of time.
It was 1967, I was in Mrs Moss’s Class at Norton County Primary School and in those days everyone was expected to be able to sew... our first challenge was to make ourselves a needle holder. Mine is still full of needles and very much in use.
Dorothy Purdew's 80th Birthday Party
on Thursday, 23 February 2012.
I went to The Dorchester this week for the 80th Birthday Party of a wonderful and inspirational lady, Dorothy Purdew. Many years ago she began a small spa called Henlow Grange which I visited back in '92 as her guest. There I met Dorothy and her son Stephen and over the years I’ve known them seen the duo expanded and build on Dorothy’s dream, eventually taking over one of the great names in Spa’s - Champneys. For this milestone of a Birthday she was surrounded by family and friends and the evening couldn’t have been warmer and more heartening.
Dorothy is photographed here with me and our mutual friend Tom Edbrooke from British Airways.
Always a joy to be with Barbra Windsor – great smile!
Another Good Blog!
on Friday, 10 February 2012.
Spent a great day with Cliqq Photography at Christmas taking pics at home for Create & Craft TV. Have just seen their blog page! Check it out at the link below.
This is a great site for crafters... I’m on it this month so I would say that! But via this site I’ve just found other interesting bits pieces and news.
This week I went up to spend 2 days in Peterborough to immerse myself in the products sold by ‘Ideal World’ and in particular ‘Create and Craft’.
For the uninitiated Ideal World is a Shopping Channel and C&C grew out of it as the public’s demand for Paper Crafting, Knitting, Pottery, Jewellery making, Needlepoint and many other crafts grew in popularity. In America crafting is big news - Martha Steward was the trail blazer having a regular slot on breakfast television for years and over there the subject is treated very much in the same way as cooking is; have a chef on TV to make a cake and a crafter will whip up a box to put it in with a simple handmade card. In the UK we still have work to do although Kirsty Alsop has been doing a valiant job!
I have loved craft for years and I even have an ‘A’ Level in Pottery Craft and Design! Therefore Blue Peter, as you can imagine, was like a dream come true and making Tracy Island was just the cherry on the cake.
I could never do the selling that I see the professionals do on shopping channels... they are on a level all of their own and it would scare the pants off me, but flying the flag for crafts, talking about them in magazines and demonstrating on TV shows - that’s my passion and my comfort zone.
So we have to ‘Get Britain Crafting’ and as I learn I’ll be passing things on to you via this website.

Horsing Around at Clarence House
on Wednesday, 01 February 2012.
Yesterday Wendy and I were invited to Clarence House for a reception hosted by Camilla to support the work of The Brooke Horse Hospital (HRH The Duchess of Cornwall is President). All was going well until Wendy (with tongue loosened by several refills of Champagne) told Camilla that as she has a stallion called Charles (see pic) they obviously have something in common....! Luckily the Duchess has a fine sense of humour and chuckled at the joke - promising to tell her Charles!
Official photos from the event to follow as soon as we get them. In the meantime this is Wendy with Charles (her husband Gary says she looks like Miss Marple in this photo, and it's hard not to disagree!)
